THE TIME IS FINALLY HERE, SKIWOLVES!!! The calendar may say October, but we're gearing up to hit the slopes to go skiing and riding at Mount Snow, Vermont next Sunday, October 28th! Some incredible early season cold weather has allowed some of the early season players to get their snowmaking efforts ramped up, and those efforts are paying off with some of the earliest season skiing in years.
We'll be heading to Mount Snow, Vermont on Sunday, October 28th. Pricing will depend on lift ticket pricing which will be announced by Mount Snow this week, but we are expecting the trip to be $59 for a lift ticket and transportation. As such, we are not yet accepting payment, but will contact you once we are. Your spot on the trip is not secured until payment is received but we will go on a first to sign up, first-served basis.
We'll be leaving campus at 5:15am after meeting at the SAC Loop at 5:00. As usual, we'll be stopping for breakfast on the way, having lunch at the mountain and stopping for dinner on the way back to campus. Expect to return to Stony Brook around 10pm.
Early season conditions will exist, meaning open terrain may have active snowmaking or thin cover. Open terrain will be for intermediate and above skiers and riders only.
Mount Snow has been blasting snow out of hundreds of snowmaking guns, amounting to over 5,000 gallons of water a minute, at every possible opportunity when temperatures are below freezing. Four trails have been the focus so far, so expect those trails (Canyon, Free Fall, River Run and Cascade) to be the open terrain next weekend.
**** Beginner terrain is not expected to be available this weekend, which also means lessons will not be available for beginners or first timers. If you are new to the sport, this is not the trip for you, but we will be having numerous trips in the spring semester where you'll be able to get out on the slopes. Make sure to join our Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/skisbu and join our email list at skiwolves.com ****
For those without adequate gear, the club is offers waterproof and insulated jacket and snowpant rentals, as well as helmet rentals, all for a nominal charge. Keeping warm and dry is an essential part of enjoying a day on the slopes, especially for only a few bucks.
