We are the #Skiwolves! Whether you've been skiing or snowboarding for years, or if you're a first timer who's been wanting to try, come join us for some awesome days on the mountain. We plan ski and snowboard trips for all abilities through the winter season, from December through April.

Once the snow melts, #Skiwolves keep going. Mountain biking, ziplining, hiking and more carry us through the warmer months, with other events though the year. Join our mailing list at bit.ly/skiwolves, and keep an eye out for events!

Since the first trip the club took in February 2015, hundreds of Stony Brook University students have joined us on a trip. As our rosters have grown and with increasing funding from the Undergraduate Student Government, our trips have become more and more affordable, allowing more Seawolves to become Skiwolves. What are you waiting for?

Most of our day trips are to the Catskill and Pocono Mountains to destinations like Belleayre, Hunter and Windham. We also take overnight trips to Vermont and northern New England over Spring Break and select weekends, and we head out west over Winter Break. For more info on where we go, head to this page. For more info on our executive board who plans and manages our trips and events, read on below.

2019-2020 E-Board

Skiing in Innsbruck, Austria over winter break.

Joanna Nowak // PRESIDENT

Joanna is a junior Philosophy major on the pre-med track who only started skiing 3 years ago but took over her entire life. But she ain’t mad though because it’s absolutely the best thing that has ever happened to her. Her first ski trip with the club was Whistler in 2018 and she has attended all the trips ever since (with a few exceptions because exams are important too.) She’s pretty chill, especially in this photo considering all that snow she’s surrounded by. Oh yea, she likes puns. If you see her around campus don’t be shy and say hi!

As club president she wants to help the club grow bigger and and more welcoming than ever before. There are so many amazing places to ski and she wants to take the skiwolves to them all, starting of with our first trip to Japan! See ya on the slopes!

martyna krom // vice president

Martyna is a junior biology major and music minor on the pre-med track from Gdynia, Poland. Martyna joined the Ski & Snowboard Club her first semester freshman year and has since fallen in love with skiing.

As vice-president, she works with the other E-Board members as well as travel agents on planning the clubs' day and overnight trips upstate, out west and overseas. Her hopes are to make Josh proud by continuing club growth and student engagement while making trips more affordable.

Alex Belikov // treasurer

Alex is a senior Biomedical Engineering Major from upstate New York. Alex has been skiing since he was 4 years old, and joined the club as a sophomore. He fell in love during a Killington Spring Break trip, and does his best to help others fall in love with the club and skiing in general. He hopes others will follow in his tracks and try new things!

Amadeusz Lipinski // SECRETARY

Amadeusz is a senior Information Systems and Applied Math & Statistics double major. As a fellow Polish Man he has both excellent tastes in both slopes and sausages! He's been skiing since his childhood, but ever since joining the Ski Club his range has extended from just New England, to the whole continent of North America. Despite these years of experience he still fumbles around the slopes like a drunken moose, but that doesn't stop him from going anywhere. Don't feel intimidated to approach him, just give him some food and he'll warm up to you immediately.

As Secretary his job is to maintain club records and manage the flow of information. With this much power, there isn't anything he can't do, so feel free to hit him up if you need any skiing-related favors!

SAMUEL HOFFMANN // public relations

Samuel Hoffmann is a senior computer science major from Passaic, New Jersey. He learned how to snowboard during his freshmen year over winter break, aside from the club, and came back to campus saying “I wonder if we have a ski and snowboard club?“ He’s usually extremely noticeable on the mountain as the one with the bright yellow jacket. He enjoys the blue trails, black trails, and terrain parks. Moreover, he’s always open to hanging out with new skiers and riders.

As Public Relations Officer he works on advertising the club and managing sponsorships. He works on the club website (this website) and all the club’s social media outlets. Next time you see a Instagram or Facebook post leave a comment, ask a question, or just like it —he’ll see them!

sarah jacobson // Graphic Designer

Sarah is a junior majoring in English and minoring in philosophy from Pelham, New York. She has a long history with the sports of the winter, Snowboarding being her #1. Sarah has been skiing since she was 5 years old, but being a woman of culture and dignity, transitioned to boarding when she was around 13 years old. Sarah is a great friend to have on the slopes, especially if you’re a beginner. She always finds joy in helping her fellow skiwolves learn their way around the mountain. She may look quiet at first, but she’s a great person to talk to if it’s your first time on a club trip and feel overwhelmed. Sarah’s love for the mountain boils down to working on her terrain park technique and the holy powder days.

As Graphic Designer, her goals have been to extend the reach of the club so more people in the SBU community can take part in all the wonderful outdoor activities our club has to offer. Her work involves making fliers, bringing awareness to the club, and managing the website and social media accounts. And in the wise words of yours truly, “If you’re not falling, you’re not getting better.”

Carl Schmidt // Transportation Coordinator

Carl Schmidt is a senior Theater Arts major from Wading River, New York, who was constantly harassed by last year’s E-board to run for Transportation Coordinator. He has been a staple of the club for years, always going out of his way to help make sure trips runs smoothly and putting himself through extreme, inhumane conditions to drive during trips when no one else could. He’s an avid snowboarder and even dabbles in the lesser sport of skiing from time to time. You can find him tearing up the nearest terrain park, nailing questionable park features and jumps on any given trip. Carl’s a great friend to have on the slopes and during long car rides to the mountain and back.

As Transportation coordinator, he organizes rides for us poor landlocked Skiwolves from the flat suburbs of Long Island to the mountains of literally anywhere else, and he’s aiming to bring more Skiwolves than ever on trips this year while he’s at it. Applications for Carl’s co-pilot are currently open and being accepted through September 2019. Please fill out this application.

Jeffrey CHU // Event Manager

Jeff is a senior mathematics major from Miami, Florida who started snowboarding 2 years ago when he came to New York and joined ski and snowboard club his sophomore year. Because of his Miami blood, he naturally sucks at winter things and has been sent to the hospital twice so far but that hasn’t stopped him from trying to improve. He’s generally very quiet around those he doesn’t know well but get him talking and he won’t shut up. The only thing he likes more than riding with music on is riding with other people so please feel free to pop his bubble of loneliness!

Past E-Board

Huge amounts of gratitude go out to our past e-board, who helped shape the club as it is today. Many of our past e-board have put countless hours and effort into planning trips, events and more. We wouldn't be where we are today, in terms of the number of trips we offer, the ambition behind the events we plan, or the number of members we have, if it wasn't for the awesome e-board who've been with us from Day 1.
